Veterans Home Care is an Australian Commonwealth Government program designed to assist veterans and war widows/widowers with low level needs who wish to continue living at home for longer and avoid premature admission to residential care. The program is provided through the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA)

Services
The following range of home support services may be available to members of the veteran community:
- Domestic assistance – assistance with domestic tasks such as household cleaning, dishwashing, clothes washing and ironing.
- Safety-related home and garden services – the focus of Home and Garden Maintenance is to assist in keeping the home safe and habitable and to minimise environmental health and safety hazards that may impact on you in and around your house.
- In-home Respite Care – to provide temporary relief for a carer enabling the carer to have a break.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Veterans and war widows are eligible for a VHC assessment for all VHC services. In order to receive services a veteran must be assessed by the Veterans’ Home Care Assessment agency for their area.
